Tokyo, officially the Tokyo Metropolis (東京都, Tōkyō-to), is the capital and most populous city of Japan.

The city proper—comprising its 23 special wards—has over 14 million residents, while the Greater Tokyo Area is home to nearly 41 million people, making it the largest metropolitan area in the world. 

Economic powerhouse: With a GRP (Gross Regional Product) of about USD 1 trillion, Tokyo accounts for roughly 20% of Japan’s economic output.
