This case report is the ﬁrst, to the authors’ knowledge, to demonstrate a 2 year follow-up successful preservation of post-extraction socket tissues combining PET therapies/Socket Shield, one abutment one time (UNIT abutment), immediate load (with occlusal load) through a digital workflow using a CAD/CAM zirkonzahn final crown.
In the above case report the authors highlight the biological beneﬁt of putting together technology and biology:
PET therapies by keeping a SS fragment of the root and it’s corresponding PDL, preventing in that way, most of the tissue remodeling and collapse, always expected in these kind of clinical situations;
One abutment one time protocol, by immediately extending your implant’s neck (what the authors call the implant extender concept) and creating, through the Bioblock concept (Eduardo Anitua) a stable zero microgap implant-abutment junction on a virtual one piece implant;
The use of an abutment with a controlled nano-roughness surface, prone to soft tissues’ adherence; the use of digital CAD-CAM technology that allows for precise design and emergence proﬁle’s planning, as well as fabrication of machined zirkonia restorations further enhancing soft tissues’ response around dental implant’s restorations; maintaining, with a PET procedure part of the patient's root, all three aspects allowed an unique enhancement of the host's biological response.
